The Importance of Donating Clothes

In recent years, the activity of donating and shopping at thrift stores has become more and more popular. Shops like Goodwill, Salvation Army, and other independent second-hand stores have become the norm when looking to shop for clothes. Organizations like Goodwill pride themselves on being a nonprofit business and the fact that they donate a significant amount of their earnings back into the community. This article will talk about some of the different ways that donating your clothes helps you and your community.

Environment

When you donate your clothes, you are helping to save the environment too. When you donate clothes and people buy them then you are saving another garment from being made that they would buy at a store in the mall. A good way to view how clothes help save the environment is comparing it to how recycling aluminum, glass, or plastic cans and bottles helps save them from entering a landfill. Landfills are extremely expensive to create and maintain so donating your clothes is even more important in saving money from waste management.

Underprivileged

Giving your clothes to charitable organizations can help people who do not normally have access to clothing at normal retail prices. Organizations like Goodwill and the Salvation Army are two places that deeply cut prices on clothing, so more people are able to afford them. After the clothing is purchased both Goodwill and Salvation Army donate a big portion of their earnings to homeless shelters, rehabilitation centers, and emergency family services. Consider donating your clothes to not only help people afford clothes but also fund community projects around your area.

Getting Organized

Donating your clothes will play a big part in helping you stay organized. When spring comes around, consider doing some spring cleaning and starting new with your wardrobe. Clean out your closet and your dresser and pack up all the clothes you are looking to get rid of. Donating your clothes is very easy to do too. One way to donate your clothes is to find your local Goodwill or Salvation Army and visit their store. Most of the time the store accepts clothes, but for individual stores, they have a specific location where you can donate them. Reduce the clutter in your home and donate your old clothes to charitable organizations.
